Poker Etiquettes
Playing poker live, at brick and mortar poker rooms, is not similar to playing poker online. With online poker, all you have to do to execute actions is use your mouse to click on buttons. In live poker games, however, you need to follow certain etiquettes and play the game properly.
The worst thing you can do when playing poker at your favorite poker room is to throw chips directly into the pot. Simply stack your bets in front of your cards so that the dealer and other players can see them clearly. It’s the dealer’s job to scoop your bets and place them into the pot.
Raising the bet must also be done properly. Announce “Raise” and place the bet in one move. Calling the bet and then going back to your chip stack to put more chips and raise it will not do, because only the first action will be honored by the dealer. For example, if you are raising a bet from $100 to $200, place your $200 worth of chips before announcing “raise to $200”.
You also need to protect your hand carefully. If other players’ cards get mixed with yours as they throw them in, your hand will automatically be declare dead. Put your hands on top of your cards or simply place chips on top of the cards to protect them.
Now you know some of the poker etiquettes needed when you play offline poker, you can enjoy the game more and play the game appropriately.
